Comfort Books for Kids

At this stressful time, we’re all looking for ways to find comfort and affirmation of our core values.  This bookshelf features some great children’s classics that are wonderful for young readers and all those who read with them, from Sylvester and the Magic Pebble and others by William Steig to Come on, Rain.

Board Books for Little Ones

From Sandra Boynton’s But not the Hippopotamus to Eric Carle’s From Head to Toe and Eric Hill’s Where’s Spot? lift-the flap series, board books are the adorable and indestructible books that you can read with your little ones countless times.  Now that my daughter is starting to read on her own, she loves to go back and read some of her beloved favorites herself.

Lucy’s Books for Beginner Readers

My daughter Lucy began to read on her own last school year and it’s been a delight to watch her read books aloud, including many beloved stories we used to read to her. Several months ago, I sat down with her at the computer and together we assembled this collection of early readers, including classics like Frog and Toad, as well as newer series like the Owl Diaries series.

Roxie Munro Collection

Roxie Munro is an old family friend. When I was in high school, I used to work for her at Union Square Open Studios in New York City. She is a talented and prolific author and illustrator of children’s books. Masterpiece Mix is particularly wonderful for young artists and her “Inside-Outside” are treasures that your kids will pour over for hours.
